Troubleshooting

No history data available

Message: "No change history found."

Causes and solutions:

  • Change Log was not enabled yet - Simple Restore can only display changes that were recorded after the Change Log was enabled. Historical data from before activation is not available.

  • Table is not logged - The selected table was not added to the Change Log. Open Change Log Setup and enable the required table.

  • Wrong point in time - The selected point in time is before the first logged entry. Use the To Present navigation action and then navigate backward.

  • Filter is too restrictive - The applied Table Filter excludes the record you are looking for. Remove or widen the filter.

Setup Wizard appears when opening

Behavior: When opening the Simple Restore Worksheet, you are asked whether the Setup Wizard should be opened.

Cause: Setup is not completed yet - either a valid license is missing or no table is configured in the Change Log.

Solution:

  1. Confirm with Yes to open the wizard
  2. Complete step 2 (License) and step 3 (Change Log)
  3. Click Finish

Table is not shown in Table No.

Cause: The Table No. field only shows tables that are configured in the Change Log.

Solution:

  1. Open Change Log Setup
  2. Add the required table and enable logging
  3. Reload the worksheet

Restore Value is not available (disabled)

Cause: The Restore Value action is only available for lines that are highlighted in blue. This highlight indicates that the historical value differs from the current value.

Possible reasons why no line is highlighted:

  • The historical value already matches the current value - there is nothing to restore
  • No change was logged for the field within the selected period

Performance issues after enabling Change Log

Cause: Logging all fields in many tables can affect Business Central performance.

Recommendations:

  • Log only the truly relevant fields (option: Some Fields instead of All Fields)
  • Set up a retention policy to automatically clean up old log entries
  • Regularly review the size of the Change Log Entry table
